Skin Care   >   Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Commonly performed to enhance your appearance, a chemical peel may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, and soften acne facial scars.

Glycolic peels are performed to help exfoliate skin and remove dry dead cells from the skin's surface. These cells accumulate in great quantity in aging skin and contribute to a dull appearance. Regular peels can help to improve and condition the skin's texture. Mild to moderate redness may occur but should subside within a few hours. Makeup may be applied afterwards.

More severe photoaging and deeper wrinkles require a deeper peel. A medium depth peel usually involves TCA or trichloroacetic acid. This can be applied alone or with another agent added to create a deeper degree of peel. A noticeable degree of redness and peeling of the skin's surface occurs after a TCA peel. It is very important not to have any sun exposure on the new skin to prevent pigmentation problems. Most patients are pretreated with Retin A for up to six weeks prior to the peel. The procedure takes about an hour and healing time varies according to the depth of the peel. Several peels may be needed to obtain desired results.

Post chemical peel skin care is extremely important. A commitment to daily skin care and the use of a sunscreen are imperative.
